Very sad, do Danes have a shorter life span than other dogs naturally? We lost our 12 yr old Dachshund last winter from diabetes, and our 8 yr old Cocker Spaniel from leukemia this past summer, so I know how it hurts to lose such a good friend. Condolences.
Oh Dee, I am so so sorry, wow - I remember when you first brought her as a baby to the ranch, she was so clumsy and calamity, I adored her, and she brought so many memories of my family far away back home who are Professional Dane/Wolfhound breeders and have show dogs - Oh Maggie - sweet girl!!
One of our cats, a constant companion of Maggie's, has been howling for two days. He comes in the house and sniffs around the areas where she used to lay. Then he sits down, throws his head back and lets loose. It's mournful. Who says animals don't grieve?
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."
So sorry to hear. Thank you for sharing her with us.
